How to Process Local Payouts to Panama (USD) via Local Bank Transfer Using Stablecoins

Local bank transfer payouts to Panama in USD funded by USDC, with Panama banking center assets, ACH Xpress volume and under 30 minute settlement stats

Your logistics partner in Colón invoices in dollars, and you pay in dollars. It should be the easiest payment you make all month. Instead, your wire spends two days with correspondent banks and arrives short.

Local bank transfer payouts to Panama with stablecoin settlement remove that friction. You fund in USDC or USD, and your recipient gets US dollars in their own Panamanian bank account as a domestic transfer.

Panama is a regional money hub. Its international banking center held US$163.0 billion in net assets at the end of 2025, according to the Superintendencia de Bancos. Deposits reached US$116.8 billion, and foreign deposits grew 11.07% in a year.

This guide covers why paying into Panama still costs more than it should, how the stablecoin-funded flow works and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first Panama payout by dashboard and by API.

Why Paying Out in Panama Is Harder Than It Should Be

Panama has used the US dollar alongside the balboa, fixed at par, since its 1904 monetary law. So there is no exchange rate to fight. The friction comes from how your money reaches a Panamanian bank.

International wires still stack fees. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On a US$20,000 monthly contractor run, that average would cost you US$1,272 every month. We break down more of these costs in the hidden costs of international payments.

Traditional ACH is slow. Local ACH transfers between Panamanian banks can take up to 24 hours or more, according to Banco Delta. That is a long wait for a supplier holding a shipment.

Instant transfers have a ceiling. ACH Xpress moves money between banks around the clock, but it caps each transfer at US$5,000. Larger invoices fall back to slower rails.

Incomplete details cause holds. Incoming foreign transfers often get extra review at the receiving bank. A missing name, ID number or account type can hold a payment for days.

Local Bank Transfer Payouts to Panama with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works

Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Panama. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the dollars on the ground.

  1. You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
  3. A licensed local payout partner in Panama receives the stablecoin settlement.
  4. The partner converts USDC to USD and sends a domestic bank transfer to the recipient’s account.
  5. Your recipient receives dollars in their normal bank account.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic transfer from a local sender.

Panama’s local rails are moving fast. ACH Xpress processed more than 1.9 million transfers in 2024, up 165.3%, and Telered handled 349 million transactions across its network. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Supported Payout Rails for Panama

Yativo’s active local payout method for Panama is Bank Transfer, which pays US dollars into a savings or checking account at a Panamanian bank. Our Panama list also includes SWIFT.

Bank Transfer (USD)

Bank Transfer, gateway ID 500, pays dollars into local accounts. Panama’s interbank network now reaches 21 banks on ACH Xpress, including Banco General, BAC, Banistmo and Caja de Ahorros.

Required details: the fields returned by the Panama payout form, gateway ID 500. Our API documentation does not publish this form yet. Expect the holder’s name and ID, the bank, the account type and the account number.

Settlement time: payouts via Bank Transfer (USD) settle in under 30 minutes.

Best for: suppliers, logistics and shipping partners, contractors and payroll for teams in Panama.

SWIFT (USD)

SWIFT, gateway ID 686, also pays USD. Use it when your recipient needs an international wire, for example for an account outside the local network. Availability depends on your account, so check the live list before you build.

Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First Panama Payout

The Panama payout form in our API is the authoritative field list. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.

  • Holder type: individual or company.
  • Legal name: full name as it appears on the cédula, or the registered company name.
  • ID number: the cédula for individuals, or the RUC (taxpayer number) for companies.
  • Bank: the recipient’s bank, for example Banco General, Banistmo, BAC or Caja de Ahorros.
  • Account type: savings or checking.
  • Account number: the full number, copied from a bank statement or the bank’s app.

Ask for a screenshot of the account details from the bank’s app during onboarding. It removes most typing errors before the first payout.

How to Send a Panama Payout via Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Panama as the destination country and the Bank Transfer payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, cédula or RUC, bank, account type and account number.
  7. Enter the amount in USD.
  8. Review the quote: fees, delivery time and the exact USD amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 8c9d0e1f-2a3b-4c4d-9e5f-6a7b8c9d0e1f
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Panama:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=PAN" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

Bank Transfer (USD) is active and carries gateway ID 500. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/500
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 4f5a6b7c-8d9e-4f0a-8b1c-2d3e4f5a6b7c
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 500,
  "nickname": "Istmo Trading Corp",
  "currency": "USD",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Optionally, get a quote. Both sides are in dollars, so the quote mainly confirms fees and the amount received:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 1a2b3c4d-5e6f-4a7b-9c8d-9e0f1a2b3c4d
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "USD",
  "method_id": 500,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 6000
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 6b7c8d9e-0f1a-4b2c-8d3e-4f5a6b7c8d9e
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "USD",
  "amount": 6000,
  "payment_method_id": 5307,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not request a quote. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Panama Payouts

Match the ID to the account holder. Make sure the cédula or RUC belongs to the person or company that owns the account. Mismatches are a common reason for holds and returns.

Confirm the account type. Panamanian banks separate savings and checking accounts. A wrong account type is an easy way to get a transfer returned.

Use local transfers for large invoices. ACH Xpress caps each transfer at US$5,000, so big payments often fall back to slower rails. A Yativo payout settles in under 30 minutes either way.

Add a clear reference. Put the invoice or contract number in the payout description. Compliance teams at the receiving bank clear payments faster when the purpose is obvious.

Stop hardcoding retired gateway IDs. The ACH (PAN) method, gateway 1361, was sunset on September 2, 2026. Read gateway IDs from the payout methods endpoint at runtime instead.

Run one playbook across LATAM. The same flow works in other markets. See our guide to local payouts to Costa Rica via bank transfer, our breakdown of LATAM payout rails and our guide to sending payments to Panama as a foreign business.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my recipient in Panama need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient gets US dollars in their normal Panamanian bank account. They never interact with stablecoins, and the payment arrives as a domestic transfer.

Is it legal and compliant to pay Panamanian recipients this way?

Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner makes the domestic transfer, so your recipient sees a normal local payment. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your compliance advisor.

How long does a Panama payout take?

Payouts via Bank Transfer (USD) to Panama settle in under 30 minutes, end to end. For comparison, traditional local ACH transfers between Panamanian banks can take up to 24 hours or more, according to Banco Delta.

If Panama uses dollars, why not just send a wire?

You can, but a wire still crosses correspondent banks, and each one can take a fee. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. A local transfer arrives as a domestic payment instead.

Can I pay a Panamanian company, not just a person?

Yes. Bank Transfer pays into accounts held by individuals or companies. For a company, collect its registered legal name and RUC along with the account details.

Is there a currency conversion on Panama payouts?

No. You pay in USD and your recipient receives USD, so there is no exchange rate to manage. Your quote still shows the fees and the exact amount that arrives.
