Your contractor in Yaoundé does not have a bank branch nearby. They do have an Orange Money wallet that pays rent and suppliers every week.
Mobile money payouts to Cameroon with stablecoin settlement match that reality. You fund in USDC or USD, lock a quote, and your recipient gets XAF straight in their mobile wallet.
Cameroon is the mobile money heavyweight of Central Africa. It held 65.1% of all CEMAC mobile money accounts in 2024, and ART counted 11.43 million active accounts with MTN and Orange.
This guide covers why wallet payouts matter in Cameroon, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first Mobile Money (CM) payout by dashboard and by API.
Why Paying Out to Cameroonian Mobile Wallets Is Harder Than It Should Be
Mobile money is already how many Cameroonians receive and spend money. The friction appears when a foreign payer can only send a bank wire or a cash-pickup remittance.
Sub-Saharan Africa is still the costliest remittance region. The World Bank put the average total cost at 8.46% of the amount sent in Q3 2025, against a global average of 6.36%.
Diaspora flows already prefer wallets. BEAC reported that more than CFA1.354 trillion was sent directly to Mobile Money accounts across CEMAC in 2024. If your payout only supports bank accounts, you miss how recipients actually cash out.
Wrong numbers fail fast. A mistyped MSISDN or the wrong network name returns the payout. Collecting a screenshot of the wallet profile during onboarding prevents most of those errors.
Bank-only tools force workarounds. Asking a freelancer to open a bank account just to receive your payment adds days and drop-off.
Mobile Money Payouts to Cameroon with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works
Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Cameroon. A licensed local payout partner then credits the mobile money wallet on the ground.
- You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
- Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
- A licensed local payout partner in Cameroon receives the stablecoin settlement.
- The partner converts USDC to XAF and credits the recipient’s mobile money wallet.
- Your recipient sees a normal wallet credit in Central Africa francs.
Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic mobile money credit.
Regional volume keeps rising. CEMAC mobile money transaction value reached about CFA34.8 trillion in 2024, up 20.33%, according to BEAC. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.
Supported Payout Rails for Cameroon
Yativo’s featured method for this guide is Mobile Money (CM), which pays XAF into a Cameroonian mobile money wallet. Our Cameroon list also includes Local Payout XAF for bank-and-wallet payouts and SWIFT for dollars.
Mobile Money (CM)
GIMACPAY connects banks and mobile operators across CEMAC, so wallet credits sit inside a regulated regional rail rather than a one-off cash pickup. Participants can transfer between mobile accounts and bank accounts inside the zone.
Required details: the fields returned by the Cameroon mobile money form, gateway ID 1319. Expect the holder’s name, the MSISDN and the mobile money network.
Settlement time: payouts via Mobile Money (CM) settle in under 30 minutes.
Best for: freelancers, field staff, marketplace sellers and anyone who lives on MTN MoMo or Orange Money.
Local Payout XAF and USD alternatives
If your recipient prefers a bank account, or you need one method that covers both channels, use Local Payout XAF, gateway ID 1258. We cover that rail in our {SIBLINK}. For dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 560.
Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First Mobile Money Payout
The Mobile Money (CM) form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/1319 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding.
- Legal name: full name as registered on the mobile money wallet.
- MSISDN: the phone number of the wallet, with the correct country code.
- Network: the mobile money operator, for example MTN or Orange.
- ID number: the CNI when the form asks for it.
- Holder type: individual or company, if the form supports both.
Ask for a screenshot of the wallet home screen during onboarding. It confirms the name and number before the first payout.
How to Send a Mobile Money Payout to Cameroon via Yativo
Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)
- Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
- Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
- Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
- Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
- Choose Cameroon as the destination country and the Mobile Money (CM) payout method.
- Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, phone number and mobile money network.
- Enter the amount in USD or XAF.
- Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact XAF amount your recipient receives.
- Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
- Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.
Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)
Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.
Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.
Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: e5f6a7b8-9c0d-4e1f-2a3b-4c5d6e7f8a91
Content-Type: application/json
{
"currency": "USDC_SOL"
}
Step 2. List the payout methods available for Cameroon. Use country code CM for this mobile money rail:
curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=CM" \
-H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
-H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
-H "Accept: application/json"
Mobile Money (CM) is active and carries gateway ID 1319. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.
Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:
GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1319
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.
Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: f6a7b8c9-0d1e-4f2a-3b4c-5d6e7f8a9b01
Content-Type: application/json
{
"gateway_id": 1319,
"nickname": "Yaounde Freelancer MM",
"currency": "XAF",
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"payment_data": {
"{field_from_form}": "{value}"
}
}
Step 5. Optionally, lock your rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: a7b8c9d0-1e2f-4a3b-4c5d-6e7f8a9b0c11
Content-Type: application/json
{
"from_currency": "USD",
"to_currency": "XAF",
"method_id": 1319,
"method_type": "payout",
"amount": 1200
}
Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: b8c9d0e1-2f3a-4b4c-5d6e-7f8a9b0c1d21
Content-Type: application/json
{
"debit_wallet": "USD",
"amount": 1200,
"payment_method_id": 7131,
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}
Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a rate. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Cameroon Mobile Money Payouts
Verify the MSISDN against the registered name. A number that belongs to someone else will bounce or credit the wrong person.
Store the network with the number. MTN and Orange wallets are not interchangeable. Capture both fields once and reuse them.
Plan for wallet-first recipients. With 11.43 million active accounts in 2024, many Cameroonian contractors never ask for a bank deposit.
Lock the rate on large runs. Exchange-rate quotes hold for 5 minutes. Lock one before a bulk contractor payday so every wallet gets the expected XAF amount.
Keep your bank option ready. Some suppliers still want a bank credit. Cross-link your ops playbook to our {SIBLINK} and to the hidden costs of international payments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my recipient in Cameroon need a crypto wallet?
No. Your recipient gets XAF in their normal MTN or Orange mobile money wallet. They never interact with stablecoins.
Is it legal and compliant to pay Cameroonian recipients this way?
Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner credits the wallet. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply.
How long does a mobile money payout to Cameroon take?
Payouts via Mobile Money (CM) settle in under 30 minutes. Domestic mobile money credits in Cameroon are typically near-instant once the local partner posts them.
What if my recipient only has a bank account?
Use Local Payout XAF, which can pay bank accounts as well as wallets. We cover that method in our guide to bank and mobile money payouts in Cameroon.
Which mobile money networks can receive the payout?
Collect the network and MSISDN the form asks for. In Cameroon the main wallets are MTN MoMo and Orange Money. Confirm the exact options in the live form.
Can my recipient receive US dollars instead of XAF?
Not through this rail, which delivers XAF. For dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 560.
