Your logistics partner in Lagos wants naira in their bank today. Your dollar wire left on Monday, and by Thursday it is still stuck with a correspondent.
Local bank & mobile money payouts to Nigeria with stablecoin settlement close that gap. You fund in USDC or USD, lock a quote, and your recipient gets Nigerian naira (NGN) in their bank account or mobile money wallet.
Cross-border money matters here. Nigeria received about US$21.8 billion in diaspora remittances in 2025, according to Central Bank of Nigeria data reported by Vanguard. That inflow remains a core FX pillar.
This guide covers why Nigeria payouts stall, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first NGN payout by dashboard and by API.
Why Paying Out in Nigeria Is Harder Than It Should Be
Nigeria’s domestic rails are fast and widely used. The friction sits at the border, where a foreign payment meets currency conversion, intermediary banks and incomplete beneficiary data.
Small cross-border transfers are expensive. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On a US$20,000 monthly contractor payroll, that average would cost you US$1,272 every month. We break down more of these costs in the hidden costs of international payments.
Inbound wires get converted on the bank’s terms. A dollar wire to a naira account is converted at whatever rate the receiving bank sets that day. Your recipient sees the final amount only after the money lands.
Correspondent chains add days. A SWIFT payment can pass through one or more intermediary banks before it reaches Lagos or Abuja. Each hop can deduct a fee and add a day.
The details have to be exact. A wrong account number, BVN mismatch or wallet MSISDN is the fastest route to a rejected payout and a week of emails.
Local Bank & Mobile Money Payouts to Nigeria with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works
Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Nigeria. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the naira on the ground.
- You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
- Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
- A licensed local payout partner in Nigeria receives the stablecoin settlement.
- The partner converts USDC to NGN and sends a domestic bank transfer or mobile money credit.
- Your recipient receives naira in their normal bank account or mobile money wallet.
Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic credit from a local sender.
The local rails can carry the volume. Mobile money operators processed about N372.14 trillion across 28.74 billion transactions in 2025, according to CBN data. NIBSS Instant Payments reached about 11.2 billion transactions in 2024. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.
Supported Payout Rails for Nigeria
Yativo’s featured method for this guide is Local Payout NGN, which can pay Nigerian bank accounts and mobile money wallets through one gateway. Our Nigeria list also includes a dedicated Bank Transfer method, SWIFT for dollars, and a POBO local option.
Local Payout NGN (bank and mobile money)
Domestic bank transfers in Nigeria move over rails such as NIBSS Instant Payments (NIP), which clears account-to-account credits in seconds. Mobile money networks then serve many retail and agent recipients.
Required details: the fields returned by the Nigeria payout form, gateway ID 879. Expect the holder’s name and ID, plus either bank account details or a mobile money number and network.
Settlement time: payouts via Local Payout NGN settle in under 30 minutes.
Best for: suppliers, logistics partners, contractors and payroll recipients who bank or hold a mobile money wallet in Nigeria.
Bank Transfer (NG)
Bank Transfer (NG), gateway ID 1327, is a dedicated local bank transfer rail. We cover it in full in our {SIBLINK}. Use it when every payout in a batch goes to a Nigerian bank account.
USD and POBO alternatives
Local Payout NGN delivers naira only. If your recipient wants dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 676, which pays USD. POBO local, gateway ID 1061, is a pay-on-behalf-of option that settles next business day (T+1). Availability depends on your account, so check the live list before you build.
Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First NGN Payout
The Nigeria payout form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/879 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.
- Holder type: individual or company.
- Legal name: full name as it appears on a government ID or passport, or the registered company name.
- ID number: NIN, BVN or other ID the form accepts for individuals; CAC registration for firms.
- Delivery channel: bank account or mobile money wallet.
- Bank details (if bank): bank name and 10-digit NUBAN account number, for example Access Bank, GTBank or Zenith Bank.
- Mobile money details (if wallet): MSISDN (phone number) and network or wallet brand the form lists.
Ask for a screenshot of the account or wallet details from the bank or fintech app during onboarding. It removes most typing errors before the first payout.
How to Send an NGN Payout via Yativo
Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)
- Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
- Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
- Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
- Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
- Choose Nigeria as the destination country and the Local Payout NGN method.
- Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, ID, bank account or mobile money number and network.
- Enter the amount in USD or NGN.
- Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact NGN amount your recipient receives.
- Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
- Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.
Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)
Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.
Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.
Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 9b3c4d5e-6f7a-4b8c-0d1e-2f3a4b5c6d91
Content-Type: application/json
{
"currency": "USDC_SOL"
}
Step 2. List the payout methods available for Nigeria:
curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=NGA" \
-H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
-H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
-H "Accept: application/json"
Local Payout NGN is active and carries gateway ID 879. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.
Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:
GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/879
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.
Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 4c5d6e7f-8a9b-4c0d-1e2f-3a4b5c6d7e91
Content-Type: application/json
{
"gateway_id": 879,
"nickname": "Lagos Agro Exports Ltd",
"currency": "NGN",
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"payment_data": {
"{field_from_form}": "{value}"
}
}
Step 5. Optionally, lock your rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 1e0d9c8b-7a6f-4e5d-0c3b-2a1f0e9d8c91
Content-Type: application/json
{
"from_currency": "USD",
"to_currency": "NGN",
"method_id": 879,
"method_type": "payout",
"amount": 3000
}
Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 6f7a8b9c-0d1e-4f2a-1b3c-4d5e6f7a8b91
Content-Type: application/json
{
"payment_method_id": 5291,
"amount": 3000,
"currency": "USD",
"purpose": "supplier_payment"
}
Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a rate. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Nigeria Payouts
Match the ID to the account or wallet holder. Make sure the NIN, BVN or CAC registration belongs to the person or firm that owns the destination. Mismatches are a common reason for returns.
Confirm bank versus mobile money up front. Many Nigerian recipients prefer a bank NUBAN for larger invoices and a wallet for smaller payouts. Decide the channel before you create the beneficiary.
Capture the 10-digit NUBAN carefully. One wrong digit returns the money. Ask for a bank-app screenshot during onboarding.
Lock the rate on large payouts. Exchange-rate quotes hold for 5 minutes, so lock one for payroll runs and large invoices. You then know the exact naira amount before you confirm.
Reuse one Africa playbook. The same stablecoin settlement flow works across other African corridors. See our overview of Africa on-ramps across 20 countries and how to receive international payments in stablecoins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my recipient in Nigeria need a crypto wallet?
No. Your recipient gets Nigerian naira in their normal bank account or mobile money wallet. They never interact with stablecoins, and the payment arrives as a domestic credit.
Is it legal and compliant to pay Nigerian recipients this way?
Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner makes the domestic delivery, so your recipient sees a normal local payment. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your compliance advisor.
How long does an NGN payout take?
Payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes. On the local side, NIBSS Instant Payments move funds between bank accounts in seconds, and mobile money wallets are credited once the partner posts the transfer.
Can I pay either a bank account or a mobile money wallet?
Yes. Local Payout NGN, gateway ID 879, can deliver to a Nigerian bank account or a mobile money wallet, depending on the fields the form returns. For a dedicated local bank transfer rail, see our guide to Nigeria local bank transfer payouts.
Which mobile money networks are covered?
Nigeria’s mobile money operators include several licensed wallets and bank-linked apps. The payout form lists the networks you can select, so confirm the recipient’s wallet during onboarding.
Can my recipient receive US dollars instead of naira?
Not through this rail, which delivers NGN. For dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 676, which pays USD. A POBO local option, gateway ID 1061, settles next business day (T+1). Check GET /payment-methods/payout?country=NGA for methods enabled on your account.
