How to Process Local Payouts to Senegal (XOF) via Bank Transfer & Mobile Money Using Stablecoins

Local bank and mobile money payouts to Senegal in XOF funded by USDC: about CFA2.2 trillion in diaspora transfers in 2025, CFA160 trillion in UEMOA e-money value in 2024, and payouts that settle in under 30 minutes

Your groundnut exporter in Dakar wants West African francs this week. Your dollar wire cleared New York on Tuesday, and it is still waiting in a correspondent bank in Paris.

Local bank & mobile money payouts to Senegal with stablecoin settlement close that gap. You fund in USDC or USD, lock a quote, and your recipient gets XOF in a bank account or a mobile money wallet.

The diaspora already moves serious money here. Public economic data cited by Le Soleil put diaspora transfers at about CFA2,200 billion in 2025, after CFA2,211 billion in 2024 per BCEAO figures.

This guide covers why Senegal payouts stall, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first XOF payout by dashboard and by API.

Why Paying Out in Senegal Is Harder Than It Should Be

Senegal is one of Francophone West Africa’s busiest digital finance markets. The friction sits at the border, where a foreign payment meets currency conversion, intermediaries and incomplete beneficiary data.

Cross-border transfers into Sub-Saharan Africa are expensive. The region remained the costliest receiving region in Q3 2025 at 8.46% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. The global average sits at 6.36%.

On a US$20,000 monthly contractor payroll, the SSA average would cost about US$1,692 every month. We break down more of these costs in the hidden costs of international payments.

Wires get converted on the bank’s terms. A dollar wire into an XOF account is converted at the receiving bank’s rate. Your recipient sees the final amount only after the money lands.

Correspondent chains add days. A SWIFT payment can pass through one or more intermediary banks before it reaches Dakar. Each hop can deduct a fee and add a day.

Many recipients live on mobile money. Across UEMOA, electronic money hit about 11 billion transactions worth CFA160,415 billion in 2024, with Senegal a leading share of both volume and value. A bank-only payout method forces those recipients into a channel they may not use.

Local Bank & Mobile Money Payouts to Senegal with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works

Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Senegal. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the XOF on the ground.

  1. You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
  3. A licensed local payout partner in Senegal receives the stablecoin settlement.
  4. The partner converts USDC to XOF and credits either a domestic bank account or a mobile money wallet.
  5. Your recipient receives West African francs in the channel they already use.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic credit from a local sender.

BCEAO’s digital finance report tracks rapid growth in electronic money accounts and merchant acceptance across UEMOA (BCEAO 2024 report). Wave, Orange Money and Free Money sit alongside bank rails for everyday credits. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Supported Payout Rails for Senegal

Yativo’s featured method for this guide is Local Payout XOF, which can pay a Senegalese bank account or a mobile money wallet under one local_payout rail. Our Senegal list also includes SWIFT for dollars and a dedicated Mobile Money (SN) method.

Local Payout XOF (bank account and mobile money)

Local bank transfers in Senegal move through the UEMOA payment systems supervised by the BCEAO. Mobile money wallets from Wave, Orange Money and Free Money sit alongside those bank rails for everyday credits.

Required details: the fields returned by the Senegal payout form, gateway ID 1265. Expect the holder’s name and ID, plus either bank account data or mobile money wallet data, depending on the channel you select.

Settlement time: payouts via Local Payout XOF settle in under 30 minutes.

Best for: agribusiness suppliers, contractors, payroll recipients and marketplace sellers who bank or hold a wallet in Senegal.

Mobile Money (SN)

Mobile Money (SN), gateway ID 1325, is a dedicated mobile-money rail for Senegal. We cover it in our {SIBLINK}. With Wave and Orange Money competing hard on P2P fees, wallet-first payouts are often the default for freelancers and field staff.

USD alternatives

Local Payout XOF delivers West African francs only. If your recipient wants dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 705, which pays USD. Availability depends on your account, so check the live list before you build.

Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First XOF Payout

The Senegal payout form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/1265 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.

  • Holder type: individual or company.
  • Legal name: full name as it appears on the national ID (CNI), or the registered company name.
  • ID number: the CNI for individuals, or the NINEA / taxpayer number for companies.
  • Delivery channel: bank account or mobile money wallet.
  • Bank details (if bank): bank name and account number, for example CBAO, Société Générale Sénégal or Ecobank Senegal.
  • Mobile money details (if wallet): MSISDN (phone number) and network, for example Wave, Orange Money or Free Money.

Ask for a screenshot of the account or wallet details from the bank or telco app during onboarding. It removes most typing errors before the first payout.

How to Send an XOF Payout to Senegal via Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Senegal as the destination country and the Local Payout XOF method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, ID, bank account or mobile money number and network.
  7. Enter the amount in USD or XOF.
  8. Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact XOF amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: e5f6a7b8-9c0d-4e1f-2a3b-4c5d6e7f8a01
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Senegal:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=SEN" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

Local Payout XOF is active and carries gateway ID 1265. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1265
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: f6a7b8c9-0d1e-4f2a-3b4c-5d6e7f8a9b01
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 1265,
  "nickname": "Dakar Groundnut Export SA",
  "currency": "XOF",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Optionally, lock your rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: a7b8c9d0-1e2f-4a3b-4c5d-6e7f8a9b0c01
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "XOF",
  "method_id": 1265,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 3500
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: b8c9d0e1-2f3a-4b4c-5d6e-7f8a9b0c1d01
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "payment_method_id": 7301,
  "amount": 3500,
  "currency": "USD",
  "purpose": "supplier_payment"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a rate. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Senegal Payouts

Match the ID to the account or wallet holder. Make sure the CNI or company NINEA belongs to the person or firm that owns the destination. Mismatches are a common reason for returns.

Confirm bank versus mobile money up front. Many Senegalese recipients prefer Wave or Orange Money for small amounts and a bank account for larger invoices. Decide the channel before you create the beneficiary.

Capture the network with the phone number. Wave, Orange Money and Free Money numbers can look alike after number portability. Ask which network holds the wallet, not only the MSISDN.

Lock the rate on large payouts. Exchange-rate quotes hold for 5 minutes, so lock one for payroll runs and large invoices. You then know the exact franc amount before you confirm.

Reuse one Africa playbook. The same stablecoin settlement flow works across other African corridors. See our overview of Africa on-ramps across 20 countries and how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my recipient in Senegal need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient gets West African francs in their normal bank account or mobile money wallet. They never interact with stablecoins, and the payment arrives as a domestic credit.

Is it legal and compliant to pay Senegalese recipients this way?

Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner makes the domestic delivery, so your recipient sees a normal local payment. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your compliance advisor.

How long does an XOF payout to Senegal take?

Payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes. On the local side, bank credits and mobile money wallets are funded once the partner posts the transfer.

Can I pay either a bank account or a mobile money wallet?

Yes. Local Payout XOF, gateway ID 1265, can deliver to a Senegalese bank account or a mobile money wallet, depending on the fields the form returns. For a dedicated Mobile Money rail, see our guide to Senegal mobile money payouts.

Which mobile money networks are covered?

Senegal’s main wallets include Wave, Orange Money and Free Money. The payout form lists the networks you can select, so confirm the recipient’s network during onboarding.

Can my recipient receive US dollars instead of francs?

Not through this rail, which delivers XOF. For dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 705, which pays USD. Check GET /payment-methods/payout?country=SEN for methods enabled on your account.
