Spain is a large, card-heavy, bank-first payment market, and it is also easy to get wrong from abroad. If you are evaluating stablecoin payouts spain for suppliers, contractors or staff, the local picture matters more than the crypto picture. This guide covers the rails, the friction points and how settlement actually lands.
Transfers carried 88.5% of the value of all non-cash payments in Spain in the first half of 2025, per Banco de España. Spanish recipients expect a clean bank credit, not a workaround, so your job is to deliver one reliably.
The good news: Spain’s domestic infrastructure is modern, and stablecoins can fund it directly. Below is what your finance and engineering teams need to know before the first payout.
Why Businesses Pay Out to Spain (trade, remittances, contractors, macro context such as inflation or FX, all from verified facts)
Spain is a large, card-heavy, bank-first economy inside the euro area. That combination shapes both how recipients want to be paid and how quickly money moves once it arrives.
Suppliers and trade partners. Spanish firms invoice in EUR and reconcile in EUR. A payout that arrives as a foreign wire with correspondent deductions creates reconciliation work on their side, while a local credit does not.
Contractors and remote staff. Contractors and remote staff are paid in EUR into local accounts, so a payout that lands as a normal local credit fits that pattern.
Cross-border cost pressure. Sending small amounts across borders costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On recurring contractor payments, that percentage compounds quickly.
FX exposure. A EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet, so no USD conversion is involved. That keeps your obligation in the currency your supplier invoiced.
Recipient expectations. Spain’s bank-run mobile payment service Bizum had 30.6 million users and 1,237 million operations in 2025. Your recipients already move money instantly at home, so slow settlement stands out.
How Local Payments Work in Spain (the domestic rails and identifiers in the facts)
Spain runs on SEPA credit transfers and cards, with Bizum as a bank-run mobile payment service. Each rail suits a different kind of recipient.
SEPA credit transfers
SEPA is the backbone. The euro area processed 17.8 billion credit transfers in the second half of 2025, according to the ECB.
Instant is now a large share of that volume. SEPA Instant Credit Transfers already made up 30.7% of SCT volume in Q3 2025, with nearly 2,800 scheme participants. Put simply, instant already carries about three in ten SEPA credit transfers.
Availability is no longer optional for providers. Euro-area payment providers had to receive SEPA Instant payments by January 2025 and send them by October 2025, per the ECB.
The identifiers are simple: account holder name and IBAN. That simplicity now comes with a check. Since 9 October 2025, euro area banks must offer Verification of Payee on euro transfers, so name and IBAN must match.
Cards and push-to-card
Spain is card-dense. Banco de España counted 119 million payment cards in the first half of 2025, about 2.4 per inhabitant, and cards made up 65.7% of non-cash payments.
Push payments to cards run on Visa Direct, which processed 12.6 billion transactions in fiscal 2025, up 27% year over year, according to Visa. With that many cards in circulation, your recipients already know how to spend from one.
Card payouts suit refunds, incentives, small contractor amounts and recipients who would rather not share an IBAN.
Bizum and account-to-account overlays
Bizum is Spain’s bank-run mobile payment service, with 30.6 million users and 1,237 million operations in 2025. It runs on top of Spanish bank accounts, which is why recipients compare every payout to an instant domestic transfer.
The Challenges of Paying Spain from Abroad
Name and IBAN mismatches now fail. Since 9 October 2025, euro area banks must offer Verification of Payee on euro transfers, so name and IBAN must match. Bulk payout files built from spreadsheets are a common source of errors.
Cross-border cost adds up. Sending small amounts across borders costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On recurring payments, that percentage compounds quickly.
FX is a hidden line item. Funding EUR obligations from a euro balance removes the conversion step, because a EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet.
Recipients prefer local credits. Spanish firms invoice in EUR and reconcile in EUR, so a foreign wire with correspondent deductions creates reconciliation work on their side.
Card payouts are not a fit for everything. Card payouts suit refunds, incentives and small contractor amounts, so match the rail to the payment type.
How Stablecoin Payouts to Spain Work on Yativo
Yativo uses stablecoins as a settlement layer, not as the recipient’s experience. You fund a balance, request a quote, and a licensed local payout partner delivers euros to a Spanish account or card. The recipient never needs a crypto wallet and receives a normal local credit.
Stablecoins come in two useful forms here. USDC gives you a dollar-denominated float. EURC is a euro-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, the same issuer as USDC.
EURC deposits credit your EUR balance. If you want the mechanics, see how to convert EURC to EUR.
- Fund your balance. Deposit USDC or EURC, or fund with fiat. EURC deposits credit your EUR balance.
- Create the payout and get a quote. Enter the recipient’s details, the amount and the rail, then request a quote before confirming the payout.
- Confirm and route. A licensed local payout partner pays the recipient locally.
- Settle. The partner pays locally, and you can track the payout in the dashboard or API.
Rail choice depends on the recipient. Use Spain SEPA payouts for suppliers and staff with a Spanish IBAN. Use Spain Visa Push-to-Card payouts for small amounts and card-friendly recipients. For the wider mechanics, read SEPA payouts explained.
Yativo currently has these gateways active for Spain.
| Gateway | ID | Settlement |
| Bank SEPA (ES) | 1244 | Under 30 minutes |
| Pay2Card (Visa Push-to-Card) | 1273 | Under 30 minutes |
| POBO (Local) (EUR) | 1096 | T+1 (next business day) |
| SWIFT (POBO), EUR | 1129 | T+1 (next business day) |
| SWIFT (USD) | 583 | T+1 (next business day) |
These are the active gateways in Yativo’s catalog today. Always read the live list from the payout-methods endpoint before you route a payment.
Any gateway with POBO in its name requires a POBO endorsement on your account.
EURC deposits credit your EUR balance. A EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet, so no USD conversion is involved.
Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like a normal local transfer.
How to Send Stablecoin Payouts to Spain with Yativo
Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)
- Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
- Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
- Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
- Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
- Choose Spain as the destination and Bank SEPA (ES) as the payout method.
- Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, IBAN and BIC.
- Enter the amount in USD or EUR.
- Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact EUR amount your recipient receives.
- Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
- Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.
Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)
Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.
Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These keys replaced bearer tokens, as covered in our October update. Every POST also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.
Step 1. Generate an EURC deposit address on Solana to fund your EUR balance (USDC_SOL also works):
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 5e47d379-d4b7-542f-969c-e12f15adcd08
Content-Type: application/json
{
"currency": "EURC_SOL"
}
Step 2. List the payout methods available for Spain:
curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=ESP" \
-H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
-H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
-H "Accept: application/json"
In this example, Bank SEPA (ES) carries gateway ID 1244. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.
Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:
GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1244
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
The response lists every required field and its accepted values. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.
Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 5d2695f0-c58f-5557-b2b6-2bcff707afe0
Content-Type: application/json
{
"gateway_id": 1244,
"nickname": "Madrid marketing agency",
"currency": "EUR",
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"payment_data": {
"{field_from_form}": "{value}"
}
}
Step 5. Request a quote for the EUR payout. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 2201fe4c-1f96-5bc6-9aaa-abc59ac7ad76
Content-Type: application/json
{
"from_currency": "EUR",
"to_currency": "EUR",
"method_id": 1244,
"method_type": "payout",
"amount": 1000
}
Step 6. Initiate the payout from your EUR balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 90b2b219-fcc1-54c5-ad78-8007f2c13fe8
Content-Type: application/json
{
"debit_wallet": "EUR",
"amount": 1000,
"payment_method_id": 48317,
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}
Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Paying Out in Spain
Collect the name and IBAN exactly as they appear on the account. Verification of Payee compares them, so a shortened company name or a nickname can cause a mismatch.
Match the rail to the amount and the recipient. Bank rails suit invoices and salaries, while card payouts suit refunds, incentives and small contractor amounts. Bank SEPA gateways pay EUR 10 to 15,000 per payout, and Pay2Card 1273 pays EUR 1 to 10,000 per payout to cards.
Fund EUR obligations from a EUR balance when you can. Using EURC for EUR payouts avoids a USD conversion step and keeps your quote in the currency your supplier invoiced.
Keep payout records together. Store the quote and the payout reference against the same record so your team can review them later.
Tell recipients what to expect. A short note saying the credit arrives from a licensed local payout partner in EUR sets expectations on timing per rail.
Check the gateway before you commit. POBO (Local) (EUR), SWIFT (POBO) (EUR) and SWIFT (USD) settle at T+1, the next business day. Bank SEPA (ES) and Pay2Card settle in under 30 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a SEPA payout to Spain take on Yativo?
The Bank SEPA (ES) gateway settles in under 30 minutes. POBO (Local) (EUR), SWIFT (POBO) (EUR) and SWIFT (USD) settle at T+1, the next business day. Settlement time depends on the gateway you select for the payout.
Can I pay a Spanish recipient who only has a debit or credit card?
Yes. The Pay2Card gateway uses Visa Push-to-Card and settles in under 30 minutes. Banco de España counted 119 million payment cards in Spain in the first half of 2025, so card reach is broad.
What happens if the beneficiary name does not match the IBAN?
Since 9 October 2025, euro area banks must offer Verification of Payee on euro transfers. Name and IBAN must match, so collect the name and IBAN exactly as they appear on the account.
Do I need to hold euros before I pay a Spanish supplier?
No. You can fund a float balance with USDC or fiat, or deposit EURC to credit your EUR balance. A EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet, so no USD conversion is involved.
Does my recipient need a crypto wallet?
No. Your recipient gets a normal local credit in their usual account or wallet. They never touch stablecoins, and the payment looks like any other domestic transfer.
Is paying out this way legal and compliant?
Yes, when it runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner handles the local leg. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your advisor.
How long does a quote last?
Quotes from the exchange-rate endpoint hold for 5 minutes. You see the rate, the fees and the exact amount your recipient gets before you confirm.
