How to Pay Contractors and Freelancers in France with Stablecoins

How to Pay Contractors and Freelancers in France with Stablecoins

Paying contractors in France should feel as simple as paying a domestic supplier. Many companies now use stablecoins to fund those payments and settle in euros locally. This guide explains how to pay contractors france through Yativo using USDC or EURC as the funding layer.

France is a significant destination for cross-border money. The country received about US$40.4 billion in personal remittances in 2025, according to World Bank data.

For finance and engineering teams, the practical question is not whether to pay in euros. It is how to fund that payment efficiently from outside the euro area and still deliver a normal local credit. Stablecoins can sit in the middle as a settlement layer without changing what the contractor receives.

Why Companies Work with Contractors and Freelancers in France

France is part of the euro area, so contractors there are paid in euros through domestic rails. The rail you choose determines how quickly the euros arrive.

Cross-border hiring also brings operational questions. Companies that engage French contractors need a repeatable way to fund payments from their own treasury. Stablecoins give treasury teams a funding option, while the contractor still receives euros.

For a broader view of how this works, see our guide to stablecoin payouts to France.

What Contractors in France Expect from a Payment

Payouts arrive in euros as a local account credit. On Yativo, the recipient never needs a crypto wallet and receives a normal local credit.

Bank SEPA (FR)

Bank SEPA (FR), gateway ID 1242, settles in under 30 minutes. This rail pays EUR 10 to 15,000 per payout.

SEPA Instant

SEPA Instant, gateway ID 184, settles instantly. Above EUR 100,000, it follows standard banking hours. It pays EUR 10 to 1,000,000 per payout.

SEPA Instant is the same scheme family as standard SEPA credit transfer, with near-real-time credits when both ends support it. Instant Credit Transfers made up 30.7% of SCT volume in Q3 2025, with nearly 2,800 scheme participants.

Euro-area payment service providers had to receive SCT Inst by January 2025 and send by October 2025.

POBO (Local) (EUR)

POBO (Local) (EUR), gateway ID 1081, settles T+1, meaning the next business day. It requires a POBO endorsement on the account.

SWIFT (POBO) (EUR)

SWIFT (POBO) (EUR), gateway ID 1104, also settles T+1. It requires a POBO endorsement on the account.

SWIFT (USD)

SWIFT (USD), gateway ID 589, settles T+1. Confirm the payout currency first.

The Challenges When You Pay Contractors in France from Abroad

Cross-border costs add up on small invoices. Sending small amounts across borders costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. For a company paying many contractors monthly, that drag is real. It is one reason treasury teams look for a settlement layer that separates funding from delivery.

Funding in the wrong currency creates friction. If your treasury holds dollars but the contractor invoices in euros, every payment involves a conversion step. Funding a euro balance directly with EURC avoids a USD conversion on the payout side.

Instant transfers are growing. Instant Credit Transfers already carry about three in ten SEPA credit transfers.

Each rail has its own limits and identifiers. Per-payout limits differ by rail. Collecting the right account details at onboarding reduces the risk of failed payments.

How to Pay Contractors in France with Stablecoins on Yativo

Yativo uses stablecoins as a settlement layer, and the contractor receives a normal local credit. You fund a balance with USDC, fiat or EURC, request a quote, and a licensed local payout partner pays the contractor locally in euros.

EURC deposits credit your EUR balance. A EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet, so no USD conversion is involved. EURC is a euro-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, the same issuer as USDC.

  1. Fund your balance. Deposit USDC or fiat, or deposit EURC to credit your EUR balance.
  2. Add the contractor and confirm the rail. Collect the account details and choose the gateway that fits the amount and speed you need.
  3. Request a quote and confirm. Review the EUR amount and the payout details before you commit the payment.
  4. Let the local partner pay out. A licensed local payout partner credits the contractor’s French account on the selected rail.

Yativo has active gateways for France across local SEPA, SEPA Instant, POBO and SWIFT rails. POBO gateways require a POBO endorsement on the account. Each gateway has its own settlement time, so check the details below.

GatewayIDSettlement
Bank SEPA (FR)1242Under 30 minutes
SEPA Instant184Instant. Above EUR 100,000, standard banking hours
POBO (Local) (EUR)1081T+1 (next business day)
SWIFT (POBO), EUR1104T+1 (next business day)
SWIFT (USD)589T+1 (next business day)

These are the active gateways in Yativo’s catalog today. Always read the live list from the payout-methods endpoint before you route a payment.

Any gateway with POBO in its name requires a POBO endorsement on your account.

EURC deposits credit your EUR balance. A EUR payout funded with EURC quotes from EUR and debits your EUR wallet, so no USD conversion is involved.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like a normal local transfer.

How to Send Stablecoin Payouts to France with Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose France as the destination and Bank SEPA (FR) as the payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, IBAN and BIC.
  7. Enter the amount in USD or EUR.
  8. Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact EUR amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These keys replaced bearer tokens, as covered in our October update. Every POST also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate an EURC deposit address on Solana to fund your EUR balance (USDC_SOL also works):

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 3bdab128-6869-5f56-ae32-cc401f0e5c7e
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "EURC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for France:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=FRA" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

In this example, Bank SEPA (FR) carries gateway ID 1242. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1242
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and its accepted values. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 5be0d2b4-618a-5725-8555-1ba0d5f588f0
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 1242,
  "nickname": "Paris design studio",
  "currency": "EUR",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Request a quote for the EUR payout. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: d6acc2b1-dcd2-5325-b655-491af7038c42
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "EUR",
  "to_currency": "EUR",
  "method_id": 1242,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 1000
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your EUR balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 41b01ee9-ece6-533e-9ce0-763b48fb1c3b
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "EUR",
  "amount": 1000,
  "payment_method_id": 48347,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can a contractor in France receive a euro payment?

It depends on the rail you choose. Bank SEPA (FR) settles in under 30 minutes, SEPA Instant settles instantly, and the POBO and SWIFT rails settle T+1.

What is the difference between Bank SEPA (FR) and SEPA Instant on Yativo?

Bank SEPA (FR), gateway ID 1242, settles in under 30 minutes and pays EUR 10 to 15,000 per payout. SEPA Instant, gateway ID 184, settles instantly and pays EUR 10 to 1,000,000, with standard banking hours above EUR 100,000.

Do I need to hold euros to pay a French contractor?

No. You can fund with USDC or fiat and request a EUR payout. If you deposit EURC, it credits your EUR balance, and a EUR payout quotes from EUR with no USD conversion.

Which rails require a POBO endorsement?

POBO (Local) (EUR), gateway ID 1081, and SWIFT (POBO) (EUR), gateway ID 1104, both require a POBO endorsement on the account. Both settle T+1.

Does my recipient need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient gets a normal local credit in their usual account or wallet. They never touch stablecoins, and the payment looks like any other domestic transfer.

Is paying out this way legal and compliant?

Yes, when it runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner handles the local leg. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your advisor.

How long does a quote last?

Quotes from the exchange-rate endpoint hold for 5 minutes. You see the rate, the fees and the exact amount your recipient gets before you confirm.
