How to Process Local Payouts to Bolivia (BOB) via QR Payments Using Stablecoins

QR payouts to Bolivia in BOB funded by USDC: settlement in under 30 minutes, 892 million QR payments in 2025 and 86% of electronic transfers made by QR

Your designer in La Paz does not want a wire. She sends you a QR code from her banking app and asks you to pay it, the way her local clients do.

That is normal in Bolivia. People made 1,697 QR payments every minute in 2025, according to the Banco Central de Bolivia (BCB). With QR payments payouts to Bolivia using stablecoin settlement, you can pay that same QR from abroad.

You fund in USDC or USD, and a licensed local payout partner pays your recipient’s QR in bolivianos (BOB). The money lands in the bank account linked to the code in under 30 minutes.

This guide covers why paying Bolivia from abroad is hard, how the QR flow works, and what to collect. It then walks through your first QR payout by dashboard and by API.

Why Paying Out in Bolivia Is Harder Than It Should Be

Bolivia’s local payments are fast and digital. The friction appears when the money starts outside the country, in dollars, and has to meet a floating boliviano.

The exchange rate now floats. Until June 2026, the official selling rate was fixed at Bs 6.96 per dollar. The BCB then moved to a flexible regime, and in September 2026 the official rate ranged from Bs 9.83 to Bs 12.64.

Prices are still rising. Consumer prices rose 5.02% in the 12 months to August 2026, according to INE, Bolivia’s statistics office. Late payouts lose value on arrival.

Small international transfers are expensive. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. QR payouts tend to be small, so that cost hits them hardest.

A Bolivian QR is built for local payers. The code is designed for Bolivia’s financial system, so a sender abroad needs a local partner to pay it. We break down more of these cross-border costs in the hidden costs of international payments.

QR Payments Payouts to Bolivia with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works

Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Bolivia. A licensed local payout partner then pays the QR on the ground.

  1. You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
  3. A licensed local payout partner in Bolivia receives the stablecoin settlement.
  4. The partner converts USDC to BOB and pays your recipient’s QR code.
  5. Your recipient receives bolivianos in the bank account linked to that QR.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any local QR payment.

QR is now Bolivia’s dominant transfer channel. In 2025, QR payments reached 892 million operations, or 86% of all electronic funds transfers, up from 7% in 2021. The BCB reports that QR processing runs 24/7, all year.

Stablecoins are also legal to buy and sell through Bolivian payment channels. The BCB lifted its ban on virtual asset purchases in June 2024. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Supported Payout Rails for Bolivia

Yativo launched local payout rails for BOB in September 2026. The active BOB methods are QR (BOL) and Bank Transfer. This guide covers QR.

QR (BOL)

A Bolivian payment QR follows the BCB’s single standard. The code carries the beneficiary’s name, account number and financial institution, so it replaces typing account details by hand.

Required details: the fields the QR (BOL) form returns, starting with the payment QR your recipient generates in their banking app. See the API section below for how to fetch the full list.

Settlement time: payouts via QR (BOL) settle in under 30 minutes.

Best for: freelancers, contractors, small merchants and family businesses that already get paid by QR.

Bank Transfer (BOL)

If you have the recipient’s account number instead of a QR, use Bank Transfer (BOL), gateway ID 1376, or Bank Transfer, gateway ID 496. It also settles in under 30 minutes. Our guide to local bank transfer payouts to Bolivia covers it step by step.

USD alternatives

QR (BOL) delivers bolivianos only. Our Bolivia methods list also includes SWIFT, which pays USD. Check the live list before you build, since availability depends on your account.

Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First QR Payout

The QR (BOL) form in our API is the authoritative field list. Ask your recipient for the items below during onboarding.

  • Payment QR: generated in their banking app, usually under an option such as Cobrar con QR. Ask for the image or the downloaded file.
  • Amount type: an open-amount QR lets you pay a different amount each time.
  • Validity: a QR can carry a deadline, so check it has not expired.
  • Legal name: as it appears on their CI, or the registered company name.
  • CI or NIT: the identity card number, or the tax ID for companies.
  • Account currency: confirm the QR is linked to a boliviano account.
  • Email: for the beneficiary record and payment notices.

Bolivian QR codes can be fixed-amount or open-amount, with a deadline set by the person who creates them. Banks such as BCP note that one QR can accept multiple payments, which suits recurring payouts.

How to Send a BOB QR Payout via Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Bolivia as the destination country and the QR (BOL) payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the QR (BOL) form asks for, starting with the payment QR your recipient shared.
  7. Enter the amount in USD or BOB.
  8. Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact BOB amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. Login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 5d2e8f1a-7b3c-4e9d-a1f2-3b4c5d6e7f80
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Bolivia:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=BOL" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

Look for QR (BOL), gateway ID 1377, in the response. Read the ID at runtime instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1377
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and the accepted format for each one, including how to submit the QR. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 7e1d2c3b-4a5f-4e6d-8c7b-9a0f1e2d3c4b
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 1377,
  "nickname": "Lucia Mamani QR",
  "currency": "BOB",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Optionally, lock your rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes, which matters with a floating boliviano:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 3b4c5d6e-7f8a-4b9c-8d0e-1f2a3b4c5d6e
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "BOB",
  "method_id": 1377,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 400
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 9c8b7a6d-5e4f-4a3b-9c2d-1e0f9a8b7c6e
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "USD",
  "amount": 400,
  "payment_method_id": 4823,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a rate. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Bolivia QR Payouts

Ask for an open-amount QR. A fixed-amount code only works for one exact sum. An open-amount code lets you pay each invoice without a new QR.

Check the deadline before each payout. If the QR has expired, request a new one. Store the latest code on the beneficiary record.

Match the name on the QR. The code carries the beneficiary’s name. Compare it with the legal name and CI or NIT you have on file.

Lock the rate on larger payouts. The official rate is recalculated every business day. A 5-minute quote keeps the BOB amount predictable.

Read gateway IDs at runtime. Yativo sunset several rails on September 2, 2026. Pull IDs from the payout methods endpoint so your integration survives future changes.

Run one playbook across LATAM. The same flow works for bank transfers to Bolivia and local payouts to Argentina. Our breakdown of LATAM payout rails compares more markets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my recipient in Bolivia need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient only needs a Bolivian bank account and its payment QR. The bolivianos land in that account, and they never touch stablecoins.

Is it legal and compliant to pay Bolivian recipients this way?

Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner pays the QR, so your recipient sees a normal local payment. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your compliance advisor.

How long does a BOB QR payout take?

Payouts via QR (BOL) settle in under 30 minutes. The bolivianos arrive in the bank account linked to your recipient’s QR.

Can I pay a QR from any Bolivian bank?

Yes. The QR BCB Bolivia standard is interoperable, so a QR from any bank, cooperative or other financial entity can receive payments, per the central bank.

What if my recipient’s QR expires?

Bolivian QR codes can carry a deadline and a fixed or open amount. Ask for an open-amount QR with a long validity, or a fresh QR before each payout.

Can my recipient receive US dollars instead of bolivianos?

Not through QR (BOL), which delivers BOB. Our Bolivia methods list also includes SWIFT, which pays USD. Check GET /payment-methods/payout?country=BOL for the methods enabled on your account.
