Your cocoa buyer in Douala wants Central Africa francs by Friday. Your dollar wire left on Monday, and it is still sitting with a correspondent bank in Europe.
Local bank & mobile money payouts to Cameroon with stablecoin settlement close that gap. You fund in USDC or USD, lock a quote, and your recipient gets XAF in a bank account or a mobile money wallet.
Money from abroad is a real line item here. Cameroon received about CFA650 billion in remittances in 2025, according to the Director General of the Treasury, with a five-year average near CFA450 billion a year.
This guide covers why Cameroon payouts stall, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first XAF payout by dashboard and by API.
Why Paying Out in Cameroon Is Harder Than It Should Be
Domestic rails in CEMAC already move money between banks and wallets. The friction sits at the border, where a foreign payment hits currency conversion, intermediaries and incomplete beneficiary data.
Cross-border transfers into Sub-Saharan Africa are expensive. The region remained the costliest receiving region in Q3 2025 at 8.46% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. The global average sits at 6.36%. On a US$20,000 monthly contractor payroll, the SSA average would cost about US$1,692 every month.
Wires get converted on the bank’s terms. A dollar wire into an XAF account is converted at the receiving bank’s rate. Your recipient sees the final amount only after the money lands.
Correspondent chains add days. A SWIFT payment can pass through one or more intermediary banks before it reaches Yaoundé or Douala. Each hop can deduct a fee and add a day.
The channel has to match the recipient. Many Cameroonian freelancers and traders prefer a mobile money wallet over a bank account. A method that only supports one channel forces you to rebuild the flow.
Local Bank & Mobile Money Payouts to Cameroon with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works
Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Cameroon. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the XAF on the ground.
- You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
- Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
- A licensed local payout partner in Cameroon receives the stablecoin settlement.
- The partner converts USDC to XAF and credits either a domestic bank account or a mobile money wallet.
- Your recipient receives Central Africa francs in the channel they already use.
Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic credit from a local sender.
Mobile money is already how much of this money moves. BEAC reported that more than CFA1.354 trillion was sent directly to Mobile Money accounts in CEMAC in 2024. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.
Supported Payout Rails for Cameroon
Yativo’s featured method for this guide is Local Payout XAF, which can pay a Cameroonian bank account or a mobile money wallet under one local_payout rail. Our Cameroon list also includes SWIFT for dollars and a dedicated Mobile Money (CM) method.
Local Payout XAF (bank account and mobile money)
On the ground, banks and mobile operators connect through GIMACPAY, the CEMAC convergent card, mobile and transfer ecosystem run with BEAC. Participants can move money between mobile wallets and bank accounts inside the region.
Required details: the fields returned by the Cameroon payout form, gateway ID 1258. Expect the holder’s name and ID, plus either bank account data or mobile money wallet data, depending on the channel you select.
Settlement time: payouts via Local Payout XAF settle in under 30 minutes.
Best for: cocoa and timber suppliers, contractors, payroll recipients and marketplace sellers who bank or hold an MTN or Orange wallet in Cameroon.
Mobile Money (CM)
Mobile Money (CM), gateway ID 1319, is a dedicated mobile-money rail for Cameroon. We cover it in our {SIBLINK}. Cameroon held 65.1% of all CEMAC mobile money accounts in 2024, according to BEAC data reported by Investir au Cameroun.
USD alternatives
Local Payout XAF delivers Central Africa francs only. If your recipient wants dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 560, which pays USD. Availability depends on your account, so check the live list before you build.
Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First XAF Payout
The Cameroon payout form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/1258 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.
- Holder type: individual or company.
- Legal name: full name as it appears on the national ID (CNI), or the registered company name.
- ID number: the CNI for individuals, or the taxpayer number for companies.
- Payout channel: bank account or mobile money wallet.
- For bank payouts: bank name and account number, copied from a statement or the bank’s app.
- For mobile money payouts: MSISDN (phone number), network (for example MTN or Orange) and the name registered on the wallet.
Ask for a screenshot of the account or wallet details during onboarding. It removes most typing errors before the first payout.
How to Send an XAF Payout to Cameroon via Yativo
Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)
- Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
- Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
- Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
- Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
- Choose Cameroon as the destination country and the Local Payout XAF method.
- Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, ID, and either bank account or mobile money wallet details.
- Enter the amount in USD or XAF.
- Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact XAF amount your recipient receives.
- Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
- Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.
Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)
Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.
Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.
Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: a1b2c3d4-5e6f-4a7b-8c9d-0e1f2a3b4c51
Content-Type: application/json
{
"currency": "USDC_SOL"
}
Step 2. List the payout methods available for Cameroon:
curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=CMR" \
-H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
-H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
-H "Accept: application/json"
Local Payout XAF is active and carries gateway ID 1258. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.
Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:
GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/1258
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.
Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: b2c3d4e5-6f7a-4b8c-9d0e-1f2a3b4c5d61
Content-Type: application/json
{
"gateway_id": 1258,
"nickname": "Douala Cocoa Supplies",
"currency": "XAF",
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"payment_data": {
"{field_from_form}": "{value}"
}
}
Step 5. Optionally, lock your rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: c3d4e5f6-7a8b-4c9d-0e1f-2a3b4c5d6e71
Content-Type: application/json
{
"from_currency": "USD",
"to_currency": "XAF",
"method_id": 1258,
"method_type": "payout",
"amount": 3500
}
Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:
POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: d4e5f6a7-8b9c-4d0e-1f2a-3b4c5d6e7f81
Content-Type: application/json
{
"debit_wallet": "USD",
"amount": 3500,
"payment_method_id": 6126,
"customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
"quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}
Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a rate. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Cameroon Payouts
Match the ID to the account or wallet holder. Make sure the CNI belongs to the person who owns the account or MSISDN. Mismatches are a common reason for returns.
Ask which channel they actually use. Many Cameroonian recipients prefer Orange Money or MTN MoMo over a bank branch visit. Collect both options during onboarding when you can.
Expect mobile money volume. ART and the operators counted 11.43 million active mobile money accounts in Cameroon in 2024, covering 38.84% of MTN and Orange subscribers.
Lock the rate on large payouts. Exchange-rate quotes hold for 5 minutes, so lock one for payroll runs and large invoices. You then know the exact XAF amount before you confirm.
Run one playbook across corridors. The same stablecoin settlement pattern works elsewhere. See our guide to local payouts to Argentina via bank transfer and the hidden costs of international payments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my recipient in Cameroon need a crypto wallet?
No. Your recipient gets Central Africa francs in a normal bank account or mobile money wallet. They never interact with stablecoins.
Is it legal and compliant to pay Cameroonian recipients this way?
Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner makes the domestic credit. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply.
How long does an XAF payout take?
Payouts via Local Payout XAF settle in under 30 minutes. On the ground, GIMACPAY already moves money between banks and mobile wallets across CEMAC.
Can I pay a bank account and a mobile money wallet with the same method?
Local Payout XAF is the bank-and-mobile-money method for this corridor. The payout form asks which channel you are using. For a dedicated Mobile Money (CM) rail, see our guide to mobile money payouts in Cameroon.
Can I pay a Cameroonian company, not just a person?
Yes. Collect the registered company name and taxpayer ID along with the account or wallet details the form requests.
Can my recipient receive US dollars instead of XAF?
Not through this rail, which delivers XAF. For dollars, use SWIFT, gateway ID 560. Check GET /payment-methods/payout?country=CMR for methods enabled on your account.
