How to Process Local Payouts to Ecuador (USD) via Local Bank Transfer Using Stablecoins

Local bank transfer payouts to Ecuador in USD funded by USDC, with Ecuador remittances, exports and settlement time stats

Your shrimp supplier in Guayaquil wants to be paid this week. Your wire left on Monday, and on Thursday it is still sitting with an intermediary bank.

Local bank transfer payouts to Ecuador with stablecoin settlement remove that wait. You fund in USDC or USD, confirm a quote, and your recipient gets US dollars in their own Ecuadorian bank account in under 30 minutes.

Ecuador is a busy corridor. The country received a record US$7.73 billion in remittances in 2025, up 18.2%, according to the Banco Central del Ecuador. Total exports reached US$37.15 billion the same year, and shrimp alone brought in US$8.4 billion, more than crude oil.

This guide covers why paying Ecuador is still slow despite dollarization, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks you through your first payout by dashboard and by API.

Why Paying Out in Ecuador Is Harder Than It Should Be

Ecuador has used the US dollar as its only legal tender since 2000. There is no exchange rate to manage on the receiving side. The friction is in how your dollars get there.

International wires still take the long way. A USD wire from abroad usually travels through one or more correspondent banks before it reaches Quito or Guayaquil. Each hop adds time, and each bank can take a fee from the amount.

Small cross-border transfers are expensive. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On a US$20,000 monthly contractor payroll, that average would cost you US$1,272 every month. We break down more of these costs in the hidden costs of international payments.

Domestic clearing runs on a schedule. The Banco Central’s SPI processes interbank transfers in three cycles per business day, with the last file accepted before 4:45 p.m. A payment that misses a cycle waits for the next one.

The details have to be exact. A wrong account number, account type or ID number is the fastest route to a returned payout and a week of emails.

Local Bank Transfer Payouts to Ecuador with a Stablecoin Layer: How It Works

Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Ecuador. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the dollars on the ground.

  1. You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
  3. A licensed local payout partner in Ecuador receives the stablecoin settlement.
  4. The partner converts USDC to US dollars and sends a domestic bank transfer to the recipient’s account.
  5. Your recipient receives dollars in their normal bank account.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic transfer from a local sender.

Bank accounts are already the main channel for money arriving from abroad. Private banks handled 62.3% of 2025 remittance flows, mostly as account credits. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Supported Payout Rails for Ecuador

Yativo’s active local payout method for Ecuador is Bank Transfer, which pays US dollars into a savings or checking account at an Ecuadorian financial institution. Our Ecuador list also includes SWIFT.

Bank Transfer (USD)

Interbank transfers in Ecuador move over two kinds of rails. The SPI clears in scheduled cycles, while Banred’s Pago Directo service credits transfers in real time between member institutions.

Required details: the fields returned by the Ecuador payout form, gateway ID 499. Expect the holder’s name and ID number, the bank, the account type and the account number.

Settlement time: payouts via Bank Transfer (USD) settle in under 30 minutes.

Best for: exporters’ suppliers, contractors, payroll recipients and marketplace sellers with an Ecuadorian bank account.

SWIFT (USD)

SWIFT, gateway ID 579, also pays USD to Ecuador. It suits recipients whose bank expects an international wire, but timing depends on correspondent banks. For most payouts, the local Bank Transfer rail is the faster option.

Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First Ecuador Payout

The Ecuador payout form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/499 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.

  • Holder type: individual or company.
  • Legal name: full name as it appears on the cédula, or the registered company name.
  • ID number: the cédula for individuals, or the RUC (taxpayer registry number) for companies.
  • Financial institution: the recipient’s bank or cooperative, for example Banco Pichincha, Banco Guayaquil or Produbanco.
  • Account type: savings (ahorros) or checking (corriente).
  • Account number: the full number, copied from a statement or the bank’s app.

Ask for a screenshot of the account details from the bank’s app during onboarding. It removes most typing errors before the first payout.

How to Send a USD Payout to Ecuador via Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Ecuador as the destination country and the Bank Transfer payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, cédula or RUC, bank, account type and account number.
  7. Enter the amount in USD, which is also Ecuador’s local currency.
  8. Review the quote: rate, fees, delivery time and the exact USD amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 7b1c2d3e-4f5a-4b6c-8d7e-9f0a1b2c3d4e
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Ecuador:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=ECU" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

Bank Transfer (USD) is active and carries gateway ID 499. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/499
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 2a3b4c5d-6e7f-4a8b-9c0d-1e2f3a4b5c6d
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 499,
  "nickname": "Costa Azul Exportadora S.A.",
  "currency": "USD",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Optionally, lock your quote. Quotes hold for 5 minutes, and for a USD payout they confirm the fees and the exact amount received:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 9c8b7a6d-5e4f-4a3b-8c2d-1e0f9a8b7c6d
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "USD",
  "method_id": 499,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 2500
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 4d5e6f7a-8b9c-4d0e-9f1a-2b3c4d5e6f7a
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "USD",
  "amount": 2500,
  "payment_method_id": 5172,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a quote. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Ecuador Payouts

Match the ID to the account holder. Make sure the cédula or RUC belongs to the person or company that owns the account. Mismatches are a common reason for returns.

Confirm the account type. Ecuadorian banks treat savings and checking accounts as separate products. A wrong type can bounce an otherwise correct payout.

Lock the quote on large runs. Quotes hold for 5 minutes, so lock one before a payroll batch. You then know the exact dollar amount each recipient gets.

Send early when the recipient is waiting. Payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes, so a morning run lands well within the business day. That leaves time to fix any rejected detail the same day.

Run one playbook across LATAM. The same flow works in other markets. See our guides to local payouts to Argentina and local payouts to Colombia, and our breakdown of LATAM payout rails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my recipient in Ecuador need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient gets US dollars in their normal Ecuadorian bank account. They never interact with stablecoins, and the payment arrives as a domestic transfer.

Is it legal and compliant to pay Ecuadorian recipients this way?

Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. A licensed local payout partner makes the domestic transfer, so your recipient sees a normal local payment. Your own tax and reporting duties still apply, so confirm them with your compliance advisor.

How long does a payout to Ecuador take?

Payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes. Your quote also shows the delivery time before you confirm. For comparison, a domestic transfer you send yourself through the SPI waits for one of three daily clearing cycles at the Banco Central del Ecuador.

Ecuador already uses dollars. Why not just send a wire?

You can, but an international wire still crosses correspondent banks, and each one can deduct a fee. A local transfer arrives as a domestic payment, for the exact amount shown in your quote. That makes reconciliation much simpler for payroll and supplier runs.

Can I pay an Ecuadorian company, not just a person?

Yes. Bank Transfer pays into savings or checking accounts held by individuals or companies. For a company, collect its registered legal name and RUC along with the account details.

Can I pay accounts at Ecuadorian cooperatives?

The SPI connects banks, savings and credit cooperatives and mutualistas, according to the Banco Central. Coverage for a specific institution depends on the payout form, so check the bank list in the form before you onboard the recipient.
