How to Process Local Payouts to Guatemala (USD) via Local Bank Transfer Using Stablecoins

Local bank transfer payouts to Guatemala in USD funded by USDC, with Guatemala exports, imports from the US and settlement time stats

Your coffee exporter in Antigua Guatemala invoices you in dollars and keeps a dollar account to match. Yet every wire you send arrives late, lighter than expected, and with no clear reason why.

Local bank transfer payouts to Guatemala with stablecoin settlement change that. You fund in USDC or USD, confirm a quote, and your recipient gets US dollars in their Guatemalan dollar account in under 30 minutes.

Dollars are a working currency in Guatemalan trade. The country exported US$15.59 billion in 2025 and imported US$34.61 billion, according to the Banco de Guatemala. Imports from the United States alone reached US$10.89 billion.

This guide covers why dollar payouts to Guatemala still break, how the stablecoin-funded flow works, and which recipient details you need. It then walks through your first USD payout by dashboard and by API.

Why Paying Dollars into Guatemala Is Harder Than It Should Be

Guatemalan law makes it free to hold deposits and accounts in foreign currency, and many exporters and importers do. The problem is not the account. It is how your dollars travel to it.

International wires still take the long way. A USD wire usually passes through one or more correspondent banks before it reaches Guatemala City. Each hop adds time, and each bank can deduct a fee from the amount.

Small cross-border transfers are expensive. Sending small amounts abroad costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On a US$40,000 monthly supplier run, that average would cost you US$2,544. We break down more of these costs in the hidden costs of international payments.

Domestic dollar transfers have tight limits. Immediate GuateACH transfers at Banrural are capped at US$2,500, and anything larger moves on weekdays only. BAM releases bulk transfers above US$1,250 at set times, and after 1:00 p.m. they wait until the next day.

The account currency has to match. Dollar and quetzal accounts are separate products at Guatemalan banks. Collect the wrong one, and the payout can be rejected.

Local Bank Transfer Payouts to Guatemala with a Stablecoin Layer: How Dollar Delivery Works

Yativo is payment infrastructure, not a bank. We use stablecoins as the settlement layer between your balance and Guatemala. A licensed local payout partner then delivers the dollars on the ground.

  1. You fund your Yativo float balance with a fiat or stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Yativo converts the payout value to USDC and settles it on-chain.
  3. A licensed local payout partner in Guatemala receives the stablecoin settlement.
  4. The partner converts USDC to US dollars and sends a domestic bank transfer to the recipient’s dollar account.
  5. Your recipient receives dollars in their normal bank account.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like any domestic dollar transfer from a local sender.

Because the payout stays in dollars, your recipient avoids a conversion into quetzales they did not ask for. For more on the settlement layer, read how to receive international payments in stablecoins.

Supported Payout Rails for Guatemala

Yativo has two active local payout methods for Guatemala. Bank Transfer (USD) pays dollars into a dollar account, and Bank Transfer (GTQ) pays quetzales. Our Guatemala list also includes SWIFT for dollars.

Bank Transfer (USD)

GuateACH, Guatemala’s interbank transfer network, carries payments in both dollars and quetzales, to monetary and savings accounts. Banrural credits immediate GuateACH transfers within 5 to 10 minutes.

Required details: the fields returned by the Guatemala USD payout form, gateway ID 764. Expect the holder’s name and ID, the bank, the account type and the dollar account number.

Settlement time: payouts via Bank Transfer (USD) settle in under 30 minutes.

Best for: exporters, suppliers that invoice in dollars, contractors paid in USD, and businesses that hold dollar savings.

Bank Transfer (GTQ)

If your recipient wants quetzales, use Bank Transfer (GTQ), gateway ID 763, which also settles in under 30 minutes. Our guide to local payouts to Guatemala in GTQ covers that rail step by step.

SWIFT (USD)

SWIFT, gateway ID 606, also pays USD. It suits banks that need an international wire, but timing depends on correspondent banks.

Recipient Details to Collect Before Your First USD Payout

The Guatemala USD payout form in your dashboard, or the authenticated GET /beneficiary/form/show/764 call, is the authoritative field list. Our public documentation does not publish this form yet. Collect the details below during onboarding so you can fill it without a round of emails.

  • Holder type: individual or company.
  • Legal name: full name as it appears on the DPI, or the registered company name.
  • ID number: the DPI for individuals, or the NIT (tax identification number) for companies.
  • Bank: the recipient’s bank, for example Banco Industrial, Banrural or BAM.
  • Account type: monetary (checking) or savings, in dollars.
  • Account number: the full number of the dollar account, copied from a statement or the bank’s app.

Ask the recipient to confirm in writing that the account is denominated in US dollars. It is the single check that prevents most failed dollar payouts.

How to Send a USD Payout to Guatemala via Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Guatemala as the destination country and the Bank Transfer (USD) payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the holder’s name, DPI or NIT, bank, account type and dollar account number.
  7. Enter the amount in USD.
  8. Review the quote: rate, fees, delivery time and the exact USD amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These API keys replaced bearer tokens, and login tokens stop working from servers on October 15, 2026, as covered in our October update. Every POST request also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC funding address on Solana to top up your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 8d9e0f1a-2b3c-4d4e-9f5a-6b7c8d9e0f1a
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Guatemala:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=GTM" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

Bank Transfer (USD) is active and carries gateway ID 764. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/764
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and the accepted values for each one. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 4c5d6e7f-8a9b-4c0d-8e1f-2a3b4c5d6e7f
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 764,
  "nickname": "Café Volcán de Agua S.A.",
  "currency": "USD",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Optionally, lock your quote. Quotes hold for 5 minutes, and for a USD payout they confirm the fees and the exact amount received:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 1f2a3b4c-5d6e-4f7a-8b9c-0d1e2f3a4b5c
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "USD",
  "method_id": 764,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 5000
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your USD balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 6a7b8c9d-0e1f-4a2b-9c3d-4e5f6a7b8c9d
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "USD",
  "amount": 5000,
  "payment_method_id": 5311,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. Leave out quote_id if you did not lock a quote. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for USD Payouts to Guatemala

Match the payout currency to the account. Use Bank Transfer (USD) only for dollar accounts and Bank Transfer (GTQ) for quetzal accounts. Store the account currency in your beneficiary record so nobody has to guess.

Match the ID to the account holder. Make sure the DPI or NIT belongs to the person or company that owns the account. Mismatches are a common reason for returns.

Pay large dollar invoices in one payout. Local immediate transfers are capped at US$2,500 at some banks, but payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes. You do not need to split an invoice to beat a bank limit.

Stop hardcoding retired gateway IDs. The earlier ACH method for Guatemala, gateway 1358, was sunset on September 2, 2026. Read gateway IDs from the payout methods endpoint at runtime instead.

Run one playbook across LATAM. The same flow pays dollars in Ecuador and local currency elsewhere. See our guides to local payouts to Costa Rica and local payouts to Argentina, and our breakdown of LATAM payout rails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my recipient in Guatemala need a crypto wallet?

No. Your recipient gets US dollars in their normal Guatemalan dollar account. They never interact with stablecoins, and the payment arrives as a domestic transfer.

Is it legal and compliant to pay Guatemalan recipients in dollars this way?

Yes, when the payout runs through regulated infrastructure. Guatemala’s Ley de Libre Negociación de Divisas allows accounts in foreign currency. Yativo is registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business, registration number 31000270723339. Confirm your own tax and reporting duties with your compliance advisor.

How long does a USD payout to Guatemala take?

Payouts via Yativo settle in under 30 minutes. Your quote also shows the delivery time before you confirm. For comparison, BAM releases bulk GuateACH transfers above US$1,250 at fixed times of day.

Can I send dollars to a quetzal account?

Use the rail that matches the account. Bank Transfer (USD) is for dollar accounts. For a quetzal account, use Bank Transfer (GTQ), covered in our guide to local payouts to Guatemala in GTQ.

Can I pay a Guatemalan company, not just a person?

Yes. Bank Transfer (USD) pays into dollar accounts held by individuals or companies. For a company, collect its registered legal name and NIT along with the account details.

When should I use SWIFT instead?

Use SWIFT, gateway 606, when the recipient’s bank specifically needs an international wire. It also pays USD, but timing depends on correspondent banks. For most dollar payouts, the local Bank Transfer (USD) rail is faster.
