Pix Payouts Explained: How Businesses Pay Out via Pix with Stablecoins

Pix Payouts Explained: How Businesses Pay Out via Pix with Stablecoins

Brazilians made 79.8 billion Pix transactions in 2025, according to the Banco Central do Brasil. For anyone paying suppliers, contractors or staff in Brazil, that is the channel recipients already use every day.

This guide explains pix payouts stablecoin funding for finance and product teams. It covers what Pix is, how the identifiers work, and why paying into Brazil from abroad is harder than it looks.

It then shows how Yativo handles the local leg, so your team funds once and the recipient gets a normal credit in reais.

What Is Pix?

Pix is Brazil’s instant payment system, built and operated by the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB). It connects accounts at banks, payment institutions and digital wallets in one network. The BCB says Pix moves money between accounts in seconds, at any hour and on any day.

In December 2025, 148 million people and 12.8 million companies made or received at least one Pix.

For a business paying into Brazil, this matters commercially. Brazil exported US$348.7 billion and imported US$280.4 billion in 2025, so suppliers, agencies and contractors there expect fast local payments. Goods trade reached about US$629 billion in 2025, and suppliers in it want reais on time.

Who uses Pix

  • Consumers paying bills, splitting costs and buying online.
  • Companies paying suppliers, refunds and payroll.
  • Freelancers and contractors receiving project fees.
  • Marketplaces and platforms pushing seller settlements.

How Pix Works

A Pix payment needs one thing above all: a valid Pix key or a full account reference. The key is the identifier that maps to the recipient’s account inside the BCB’s directory.

The five key types

The BCB recognizes five key types: mobile phone, email, CPF, CNPJ and a random key. A person can register a phone number, an email, a CPF or a random key. A company typically uses a CNPJ or a random key.

Format matters when you collect details. The BCB’s DICT manual says phone keys use the international E.164 format, and email keys can run to 77 characters. Store keys exactly as registered, with no reformatting on your side.

Timing

The BCB says Pix moves money between accounts in seconds, at any hour and on any day. On Yativo, Pix gateways settle in under 30 minutes. There is no banking-hours window to plan around, unlike traditional transfers.

What the recipient needs

The recipient needs an active account at a Pix-enabled institution and a registered key or account details. They do not need a crypto wallet. Money arrives as a normal local credit in reais, which is the point.

When a key is not available

Some recipients prefer not to share a key. Manual entry of the recipient’s tax ID, branch and account number started 12% of all Pix transactions in 2025, according to the BCB. Your payout flow should accept both paths. For a deeper walkthrough, see the Brazil Pix payouts guide.

Why Funding Pix Payouts from Abroad Is Hard

Pix is fast on the local leg. The friction sits on the funding side, where cross-border money still moves on older infrastructure.

Sending small amounts across borders costs an average of 6.36% of the amount sent, according to the World Bank. On a monthly contractor payment, that is a real line item.

Old rails disappeared. Brazilian banks shut down DOC and TEC transfers for good on February 29, 2024, per g1.

Names and tax IDs must match. Central bank rules require a TED to carry the recipient’s CPF or CNPJ and a name consistent with it.

Foreign exchange rules now cover crypto. Since February 2, 2026, international payments with virtual assets fall under Brazil’s foreign exchange rules, per the central bank. Your funding route needs to reflect that.

Stablecoins are already central to this market. Chainalysis reports US$318.8 billion in crypto value received in Brazil from July 2024 to June 2025. Chainalysis also says more than 90% of those flows are tied to stablecoins.

How Pix Payouts with Stablecoin Funding Work on Yativo

Yativo connects that funding to Pix. You hold a float balance, fund it with USDC or fiat, and get a quote before paying out. A licensed local payout partner then pays the local leg over Pix in reais.

The recipient never needs a crypto wallet. They receive a normal local credit in reais.

  1. Fund your float. Top up your Yativo balance with USDC or fiat.
  2. Request a quote. Submit the payout details and get a quote before you commit.
  3. Confirm the payout. Once confirmed, Yativo routes the instruction to the local payout leg.
  4. Track settlement. The payout goes out over Pix and you can track settlement in the dashboard or API.

For teams moving between assets first, this walkthrough on how to convert USDC to BRL covers the mechanics. If you want to pay via a Pix QR code instead of a key, read about Pix QR code payouts.

Yativo runs several active gateways for Brazil. Each has its own ID and settlement window, and any gateway with POBO in its name requires a POBO endorsement on the account.

Any gateway with POBO in its name requires a POBO endorsement on your account.

Your recipient does not need a crypto wallet. They never see or touch stablecoins. On their side, the payment looks like a normal local transfer.

How to Send Pix Payouts with Yativo

Option 1: Dashboard (for manual payouts)

  1. Fund your Yativo float balance with either a fiat or a stablecoin deposit, such as USDC.
  2. Go to Transfer in your Yativo dashboard.
  3. Select the float wallet you are paying with, for example USD, EUR, MXN or whichever balance you funded.
  4. Choose the customer you are paying on behalf of. This step is necessary for fintechs that run payouts on behalf of their customers.
  5. Choose Brazil as the destination and Pix as the payout method.
  6. Enter the recipient details the payout form asks for, such as the Pix key and the CPF or CNPJ.
  7. Enter the amount in USD or BRL.
  8. Review the quote: exchange rate, fees, delivery time and the exact BRL amount your recipient receives.
  9. Confirm with your PIN and 2FA.
  10. Track the payout in real time and download the receipt for your records.

Option 2: API (for automated and bulk payouts)

Every endpoint below is in the Yativo API documentation. Production calls go to https://api.yativo.com/api/v1, and the sandbox runs at https://smtp.yativo.com/api/v1.

Authenticate every request with the X-Api-Key and X-Api-Secret headers. Each key only works from the server IPs listed on it. These keys replaced bearer tokens, as covered in our October update. Every POST also needs a unique Idempotency-Key header.

Step 1. Generate a USDC deposit address on Solana to fund your balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/crypto/create-wallet
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 3fa4b8ed-a20c-5502-9782-2210d65ebdf8
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "currency": "USDC_SOL"
}

Step 2. List the payout methods available for Brazil:

curl "https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/payment-methods/payout?country=BRA" \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY" \
  -H "X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

In this example, Pix carries gateway ID 494. Always read the ID from the live response instead of hardcoding it.

Step 3. Fetch the required fields for that gateway:

GET https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiary/form/show/494
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET

The response lists every required field and its accepted values. Build your payment_data object from it. For field details, see API documentation.

Step 4. Create the beneficiary. Replace the placeholder with the fields the form returned:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/beneficiaries/payment-methods/
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 97775abc-8131-577e-8961-1a53cedd9045
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "gateway_id": 494,
  "nickname": "Sao Paulo design studio",
  "currency": "BRL",
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "payment_data": {
    "{field_from_form}": "{value}"
  }
}

Step 5. Lock your BRL rate. Quotes hold for 5 minutes:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/exchange-rate
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: 355a374f-ee1f-58d6-82d1-a3f49b5cfef7
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "from_currency": "USD",
  "to_currency": "BRL",
  "method_id": 494,
  "method_type": "payout",
  "amount": 500
}

Step 6. Initiate the payout from your balance:

POST https://api.yativo.com/api/v1/wallet/payout
X-Api-Key: $YATIVO_API_KEY
X-Api-Secret: $YATIVO_API_SECRET
Idempotency-Key: fdefb1dc-639f-5a2c-969f-a461e929d57b
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "debit_wallet": "USD",
  "amount": 500,
  "payment_method_id": 48283,
  "customer_id": "e8caa491-57b6-4c39-9e3a-d2c97e47fbf0",
  "quote_id": "4a72ecf8-6c8a-4e38-9971-8aabe9f785ed"
}

Use the id from the beneficiary response as payment_method_id. For bulk runs, repeat the call per beneficiary, as described on our payouts page.

Best Practices for Pix Payouts

Validate keys before you send. Check format at collection time, not at payout time. Phone keys follow E.164 and email keys can be long, so treat them as exact strings.

Store the tax ID with the name. Keep the CPF or CNPJ next to the legal name you were given. Central bank rules require a TED to carry the recipient’s CPF or CNPJ and a name consistent with it.

Batch by corridor, not by date. Group payouts by gateway and currency so one quote covers a clean set of instructions.

Quote before you promise. Give recipients an amount in reais only after you have a quote in hand.

Keep a fallback path. Some recipients will not share a key. Support account-detail payouts so a single missing key does not stall a payroll run.

Reconcile on the payout ID. Match every status update back to your internal reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Pix payout take to reach the recipient?
